water “Revere the healing power of nature” – Hippokrates
“Maharishi Ayurveda takes the expanded view that health not only encompasses the mind, body, emotions, and spirit of the individual but extends to the health of the entire environment. Since the intelligence within the everyone is the same intelligence that governs the entire universe, each individual is not an isolated organism but is intimately connected to all of life, from the most infinitesimal subatomic particle to the entire cosmos. Another analogy would be that of a vast, lush forest: for the forest to be green and healthy, the individual trees that comprise it must be green and healthy.” (from Heaven´s Banquet by Miriam Kasin Hospodar)
The health of the individual is undeniable linked to the health of the planet. Famously called the “circle of life” where everything which is given life, introduced in the circle, will finish by materializing in the cosmos. However, humankind is continuing to pollute and to poison itself.
A sunny, warm and mild afternoon at the beach, clear blue, emerald water… a soft wind caressing the skin. Rays of sunlight dancing on the water´s surface. Red, blue yellow coloured plastic everywhere. Everyday I feel ill for the planet observing the amounts of plastic, packages wrapping up all kind of things, particularly when passing by a supermarket. Every single thing is double, triple wrapped up in plastic, ending up at the end of its life somewhere in the stomach of a whale, fish or other creature, organism or resource of this planet.
Cooking for my health, mental and physical health, means for me avoiding as much as possible to buy and to consume treated or wrapped up food. Equip yourself with glasses, food containers of good quality. Buy dried lentils, oat flakes, grains, nuts, dried fruits in your local biological store, market, your local farm and as often as possible regional, fresh vegetables and food.
Produce your own vegetable drink and enjoy the pleasure of creating wonderful, colourful dishes. You will be astonished how your own weekly amount of waste will decrease. You will develop a feeling for your own weekly needs of vegetables, fruits etc and you will throw away less.
Buy only natural cosmetics and care products without microplastics which will end up in the seas of our planet and finally in ourselves.
Recipe for 1 litre of oat drink:
-Soak 120 g of oat flakes for about 30 minutes or over night to gain an even sweeter taste
-Drain the mixture and fill the oat flakes in a blender with 900 ml of fresh water
-Blend well for round about 30 seconds and drain the mixture by a fine sieve or muslin
-You can use the remaining rest in the muslin/sieve for the dough of a bread or put it in your muesli the next morning (make sure to keep it in the fridge and use it immediately)
-Be aware to store your oat drink in the fridge and to consume it in the following three days
Enjoy!
